January 2, 2012 How to make a Tin Can Stove

A rectangular hole near the bottom allows just enough space for a board to be inserted. An empty pop bottle is then set in the can on top of the board. Wood shavings and sawdust is them poured in and tamped down as hard as possible around the pop bottle.
The pop bottle and board are then removed.

The can is set on top of a grill or spacer, another is set on top. A  fire is started in the hole. It only takes a little paper and a few little pieces of kindling.
The fire needs tending at this point to get it going steadily.

After about 10 minutes of watching and tending, the fire is taking off on its own. It is sitting in front of the alternate, larger fire "pit", which is a caldera.

Voila! Note how little wood keeps this going, as the fire is burning the sawdust as it's fuel.
This set-up is sufficient for the cooking of two main courses for a large family. This meal consisted of rice...
...and the ulam (main dish) which was chicken based. Please let me know if you try this and how it worked.
